According to Gartner, CPM is the highest priority in Business Intelligence. It is a rapidly growing market that grew by 28% in 2008 to $2Billion and is predicted to have a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 14.4% through 2011. Part of this reason is that only 50% of large organisations, 25% mid-size have a CPM system in place. The rest use spreadsheets or home-grown systems.
However many of the potential benefits of CPM will not be realized as the focus of CPM implementations is typically narrow. Most companies simply automate existing finance-oriented processes and fail to improve performance management processes across the organisation.
